Mason Jars

Mason jars are designed specifically for home canning and long-term food storage, using tempered glass that can tolerate high heat and pressure during processing.

What to consider when choosing:
When selecting canning jars, shoppers should prioritize jars manufactured specifically for canning, as decorative or recycled glass jars are not designed to handle thermal stress. Thick, uniform glass walls reduce the risk of cracking during processing and cooling. Wide-mouth jars are easier to fill, clean, and empty—especially for whole fruits, pickles, and meats—while regular-mouth jars are often preferred for liquids, sauces, and jams. Consistency in brand is also important, as lids and jars from the same manufacturer typically seal more reliably together.
